Fall back in love with your website in 5 easy steps

Feb 10, 2023
Getting a new website is exciting. You want to click every button, the content is thrilling, and the images are so good you're getting butterflies in your stomach.

However, once the honeymoon phase is over, it's easy to look past your website and forget about it. Maybe it even actively starts to bother you: all you see are the things you want to fix. Or perhaps you just know something isn't right anymore, but you can't put your finger on what it is.

Here are 5 things you can do to get those butterflies back:

1. Spend some quality time

Even if you spend a lot of time on your website, it's probably not quality time. Set aside a moment to look - really look - at your website. Tune out the rest of the world and click through every page like it's the very first time.

2. Remember why you fell in love

At one point, your website did give you butterflies. Why did you decide to build the website? Is there anything about it that still gives you butterflies?

Thinking about these things will reignite the spark, and bring you back to the core purpose of the website.

3. Focus on what's important

Cluttered websites are a huge turnoff and are sure to make you want to escape through the back door of the restaurant.

Update or delete outdated content and reorganise the relevant content so that it better serves the website's purpose.

Your audience will also tell you what turns them off. Check your analytics to see what matters most to them and where they might get stuck or start looking for an escape route.

4. Try something new

Time to spice things up! Refresh the look and feel, create some new content, revamp some old content, or come up with a new way for your audience to access the content. We've recently refreshed some websites and seriously, the sparks are flying.

5. Be yourself

In a world full of algorithms and automation and bots (even ones that can write you a love poem), there is still no substitute for the human touch.

Even on the most formal websites, your audience will love it if you let some of your passion and personality shine through.
